I've been teaching yoga since 2013 and have taught at various studios, gyms, and corporate settings.  I co-owned The Yoga Room at Fairlawn for almost 5 years.  I also have over 75 hours of training in Myofascial release and am a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner.

I have been active my whole life, through dance, soccer, coaching, and being a certified group fitness instructor.   I had back surgery in 2004, and most recently in July of 2021 I had a total hip replacement in my left hip from years of activity and hypermobility.  I will always have issues with my back and my hip joints, but yoga is a practice that is always changing and adapting to my needs. I fell in love with yoga because it is a challenge but one that is kinder on my body.   The mind-body component is helping me accept the limitations I have but find there are many ways to challenge myself physically and mentally.   I strive to help my students figure out what works in their own body to feel good and be functional.   I love to help people find ways to feel better in their mind and  body - please contact me to set up a private or group yoga session, a myofascial release session, or a private Reiki session.

JD is a local Topekan who found Yoga in 2016 when he took his first class via the corporate program at his work and has been hooked ever since. After taking a handful of classes he decided to venture out into the public and take classes at a previous Topeka studio, The Yoga Room, where he started to really learn more about the poses and physical practice. After a few months JD knew yoga was something very important to him. In the Fall of 2016 JD was introduced to Ashtanga Yoga through a friend and a free class for teachers needing practice teaching. Ashtanga felt right, felt like home and thus began his love affair with Ashtanga. For JD, Ashtanga is the perfect marriage of both the physical and spiritual sides of yoga.

In 2017 JD completed an  200hr RYT Teacher Training focused on the Ashtanga Primary Series at Maya Yoga in KC, MO. Upon completion JD began teaching at The Yoga Room, up until it closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Which brings us to today and The Yoga Space :)

JD's teaching focus is our 2 Ashtanga based classes, Ashtanga 101 and Led Primary Series, but also helps teach all other The Yoga Space classes, events, and workshops. His teaching is focused on enjoying the practice and ensuring yogis are safely doing poses so nobody gets hurt as well as continuing to learn and expand their practice. "If it hurts you're doing it wrong" is something you'll hear him repeat in every single class. Cheers!

Brenda has been a registered yoga teacher for 15 years, and completed her C-IAYT with Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy in 2022. In addition to seeing clients for yoga therapy, Brenda teaches all kinds of classes, and enjoys letting the energy of the students and the class vibe direct the flow. Brenda empowers people facing stress, exhaustion & overwhelm, to re-discover  their connection with the deepest part of themselves, so they can live fully, and achieve long-term goals for life transformation.

Suzi made her way to a personal yoga practice as a way to cope with arthritis after growing up as a ballet dancer. While studying in Austin, TX, Suzi deepened her yoga practice in 2013 by receiving her 200 YTT certification where she began teaching hatha, candlelight mellow flow, yoga con barre, and other vinyasa style classes.

After returning to Kansas, Suzi started Kitty Karma Yoga in partnership with Helping Hands Humane Society here in Topeka. As a cat-mom, she wanted to blend yoga with a way to give back. Classes are vinyasa based for all levels and family friendly. The best part, classes include playing with adoptable cats; although the occasional puppy class does also appear.

Beyond practicing many styles of yoga, Suzi also has a passion for running, mostly at Disney and obviously in costume. She ran her first half-marathon in 2016 and her first full marathon in 2022, both as part of the runDisney program.

Suzi  is beyond excited to join The Yoga Space family. She loves using props, creating fun playlists, and inviting you to try new things throughout your practice.
